Georgia State University - International University of Grand Bassam (IUGB) Partnership

Cooperation between Georgia State University and the Republic of Cote d’Ivoire dates back to 1994. Over this 13 year period, numerous Ivorian students have completed undergraduate and graduate degrees at Georgia State. Members of the Georgia State faculty have participated in exchange and research programs with colleagues at Ivorian universities. These activities include collaborative research and economic development programs focusing on topics as diverse as educational reform and nutritional development. Since 1998, Georgia State University has worked along side the Agency for Education and Development in Cote d’Ivoire to establish the first English language university in Cote d’Ivoire based on the American system of higher education. This is a regional university with a vision to produce the human capital essential to promoting and sustaining economic growth and development in the West Africa region.

The International University of Grand Bassam and Georgia State University are embarking upon a new chapter in their relationship. Current cooperation efforts are focused on: (1) establishing the four-curriculum for bachelor’s degrees that will train undergraduates in business, computer science, economics and public administration geared toward international economic development; (2) staff development and strengthening of management and administrative systems; and (3) meeting the standards necessary to receive accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).

The Office of International Affairs serves as university coordinator of the cooperation efforts between Georgia State and the International University of Grand Bassam.
